The Dunlop Park Cow Herd
The Dunlop Park Cow Herd has been bred to retain the features of the Australian cow herd which have been the strong foundation for the success of the Angus Breed in Australia. These are ease of calving, fertitily and low maintenance requirements (the abilty to “do” and produce a calf on grass).
Current research is showing that fat cover is important in fertility. Our cow herd has ideal fat cover and low birthweight EBV’s. We believe that this makes them an ideal mating match for high performance bulls.
History
The Dunlop Park Herd was founded using females from Roy Nicholas’ Springvale Stud at Sassafras. Springvale was a leading stud on Tasmania in the 1950’s and 60’s and we purchased 25 elite females with representatives from each of the main female familes at Springvale. Springvale in turn had been established using females from the Terinallum, Kahlua and Wambanumba studs. The Springvale herd was strongly influenced by 2 bulls who left their mark on the female lines, Terinallum Brigand and Currwidgen Katindy. The Currawidgen herd was owned by Mrs. L.T. Sanderson and has close ties with the Wallah herd. The Wallah infleunce at Dunlop Park is strong and comes from several sources, the most recent being the Talooby herd which was also founded on Wallah lines.
Over the 35 year history of Dunlop Park several cow familes have been added from other sources. These include the Lynette family (Merrigrange), Umbra (Creekton) and the Esther family (our one major link with American bloodlines).

Canella
The Dunlop Park Canella family started with a mating between the Ellen family (see below) and Kenalta McHenry a Canadian AI sire.
Dora
The Dora Line derives from the Springvale Floryx family. The first Dunlop Park Dora D61 was a grand-daughter of Noranda Glowman.

Esther
In 1988 Victoree Esther G9 (ET) was purchased at the Landfall sale. G9 was the daughter of F. Nichols Hallmark R225 (Imp. USA) and Summitcrest Ester R073 (Imp. USA). She was in calf to Landfall Ascot (a son of Ascot of Wye) and it was this calf, Esther J41, who became the matron of the Esther line at Dunlop Park. The Esther line has frame and growth and has bred many outstanding sires over the years.
Evita and Eleeta families
The Eleeta and Evita families both derive from the Springvale Eleeta Family. Randolph R22, one of our most outstanding Stud sires, was a son of Evita J2 and New Trend 802.
Floryx
The Floryx line is a continuation of the Springvale Floryx family, all Floryx’s desending from Springvale Floryx U31. The Springvale Floryx line in turn goes back to the Springvale Pearl line and before that the Terinallum Pearl line.
Florry
All Florry’s are desended from Springvale Floryx 2nd (mother of Springvale Floryx U31) and before that the Terinallum Pearl line.
Glisper
The Glisper family was started with a mating of the Springvale Questina family and the Wambanumba line (Burn Tally).
Graceglo
The Dunlop Park Graceglo family was started from a mating between the Springvale Black Graceful family and Noranda Glowman. The Springvale Black Graceful family lines back to the Terinallum Black Graceful family.
Like many Dunlop Park families females in the Graceglo line have great longevity and can continue producing outstanding calves to a very old age.
Linda
The Linda family comes from the Springvale Ellinda family. This line was also strongly influenced on the sire side by the Springvale Spartan family. The Springvale Spartan family was descended from the Terinallum Spara family. The first Linda and matron to the line was a daughter of Xavier X17 the son of Springvale Spartan F4.
Lynier
The Lynier family is a branch of the Lynne family (below) with Wambanumba and the Springvale Spartan family on the sire side of the original Lynier (G32).
Lynne and Lynette families
In the early 1980’s several Merrigrange females were purchased, Merrigrange Lynnette V14 and her daughter Merrigrange Lywette Y19 started lines that have made a great contribution to the Dunlop Park herd. All Lynettes are descended from Y19 and all Lynnes from V14.
V14’s daughter Lynne Z9 was the mother of Jetsetter J1 (sire QAS Traveler 23-4). Jetsetter is the bull featured on our logo and his progeny were highly thought of by many of our clients.
Merry and Merry Maid
The Merry and Merrymaid families are descended from the Springvale Meromest family.
Mist
The Dunlop Park Mist family comes from the Springvale Mist family.
Myschief
This family also derives from the Springvale Mist family.

The Dunlop Park Umbra family began with two females purchased at the Creekton dispersal sale in 2004; mother and daughter Umbra M12 and Umbra X59.

Wenlock
The Wenlock family is a branch of the Wendy family.
Whisper
The Whisper family comes from the Springvale Wytinda family.
Wingin
Members of the Wingin family have had various spellings over the years; Wingin, Wingen and Wingan. The family comes from the Springvale Wyeeta family which in turn came from the Wambanumba Wyeeta family. Like most Springvale female families the Wyeeta line had Currawidgen Katindy and Terinallum Brigand infused into it.
Zinnia
The Zinnia line was introduced to Dunlop Park in the early 1990’s when Metro Zinnia C30 was purchased with a calf at foot at the dispersal of Bryan Grey’s Howick stud. The calf at foot was a son of Hoff Valedictorian SC 925 (Howick Madrid M54) and he was subsequently used as a stud sire. Zinnia also proved to be a useful purchase and she was retained in the herd and is matron to a good line of females.
Zinnia was bred by the Metro Stud of the Melbourne and Metro Board of Works is a daughter of Stern Black Power 426 (Imp NZ). The Zinnia family, like many others in the Dunlop Park herd, lines back to the Terinallum herd.
